The Institute of Notary Law and Practice was established in 2003.
Its goal is to conduct research and provide training in Notary Law and in other areas of law that are relevant to notarial practice, such as matrimonial property law, inheritance law, real property law, land register law, corporate law and tax law.
The institute is responsible for training Bernese notarial candidates in Notary Law and Practice. The institute serves as a point of contact for authorities and practicioners. It cultivates contacts with similar institutes on a national and international level and other organizations dealing with notarial issues.
